Frances Jane Snipes

FRANCES JANE SNIPES, lifelong Arkansas resident, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 17, 2011. She was 86 years old. Born Feb. 21, 1925 in Little Rock, she was the daughter of Nathan Henry and Marietta Houldridge Childress, who preceded her in death. She married Eugene Worthen Snipes on Jan. 2, 1942. Mr. Snipes preceded her in death in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Nathan Henry Jr. and sisters, Gladys Childress Williams and Helen Childress Douglas. Mrs. Snipes faithfully attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock for more than 50 years and was a member of the Elizabeth Sunday School Class. She spent most of her life doing what she enjoyed the most: taking care of her family. She raised her three children to love the Lord and to always do their best. She enjoyed traveling with Mr. Snipes, especially to northern Arkansas in the Fall and to Colorado to visit her granddaughters. She retired from the Arkansas State Department of Education and was a member of the Arkansas Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Snipes was a volunteer at Baptist Health for many years after her retirement. Her father, Henry, was for decades, proprietor of Henry's Barber Shop on Capitol Avenue in downtown Little Rock. She is survived by two sons: Michael E. and his wife, Ann of Aurora, Colo. and Timothy Lee of Maumelle, as well as a daughter, Patricia Lynn of Little Rock. She is also survived by her two precious granddaughters: Michelle Rae Snipes Rayburn and her husband, Justin, Kansas City, Kan. and Robin Lynn Snipes Wheeler and her husband, Micah, Seoul, S. Korea, as well as her sister, Rosemary Childress Smith and her husband, Marvin, West Monroe, La. She also leaves behind her ever-loving cat, GG, who was her constant companion. Patricia, a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University, is a teacher in the Little Rock School District. Michael, a graduate of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, is a retired newspaper publisher in Colorado and former editor of the Benton Courier. Timothy is a graduate of Colorado Aerotech and for years has been engaged in the aircraft industry. The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice and the employees of Home Instead for the kindness they bestowed upon their mom the last several years of her life. They would especially like to thank Vonetta J. Sneed for taking special care of their mom and loving her with all her heart. Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 22, 2011, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 2 p.m. under the direction of Roller Chenal Funeral Home, with Reverend Stan Paris officiating. Interment and a brief graveside service to be held immediately after the services, at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander, with Marvin Smith III officiating.
