Elsie Corene Reid Smith of Cabot went to be with the Lord on March 19, 2011. She was born September 13, 1924 to the late Lon Edward Reid and Phyllis Corene Brawley Reid. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Kenneth Alexander Reid; her husband, Albert Ronald Smith; her granddaughter, Tiffany Hope Morden; her grandson, Adam Patrick Goforth; her son-in-law, Dr. Jerry C. Chapman; her niece, Flota Delatha Daniels Pool and her nephew, Terry Ronald Smith. She is survived by her three daughters, Reida Robinson(Gary), Medford, Oregon; Sandra Goforth (Rickie), Sherwood, Ark.; Diane Chapman (Late Dr. Jerry Chapman), Cabot, Ark.; three granddaughters, Lark Buckingham, Little Rock, Ark.; Amanda Jones (Scot), Sherwood, Ark. and Melanye Weir, Cabot, Ark.; one grandson, Jace Chapman, Houston, Texas; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; four nieces; five nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Elsie was retired from Remington Arms but that did not slow her down. She organized a group of women her age and older and the formed "The Granny Band". They played, sang and brought joy to nursing homes and churches around the state. Elsie was the last living member of the group. She also taught pre-school at the First Baptist Church of Cabot until she was 80 years old. She played her auto-harp for the children and taught them songs about Jesus and the kind of life he wanted them to live. When she had to have her hip replaced and was out for a long while, the children sent her "love" packages with the most touching messages. She loved those children so much and refused to throw away their "packages", keeping them until the day she died. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she's touched. The family of Elsie Smith would like to say a special thanks to the staffs of Cabot Rehabilitation and Nursing Home and Arkansas Hospice. The love and care you provided mother in her last days meant more to us than words could ever express. In lieu of flowers The Family would like to suggest donations be made to the Cabot Rehabilitation and Nursing Home and/or to Arkansas Hospice. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Cabot. Interment will follow at Sylvania Cemetery.
