James A. DeLancey

James A. DeLancey, 82, of DeWitt, went to be with the Lord on March 21 , 2011. James was born May 31, 1928 to Edna and Pink DeLancey. In addition to his parents; brothers and sister, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Betty Lou DeLancey and son, Larry DeLancey. James was a devoted member of Unity Baptist Church and a loving husband and father to his family. He enjoyed duck hunting and shared the green timber with many over the decades. When he called with his Black Olt others would lay their duck callers down as he coaxed the greenheads in. He is survived by a daughter, Peggy Denman and her husband, Jeff of DeWitt; son, Carlos DeLancey of Atkins and son, Steve DeLancey and his wife, Gail of Springdale; grandchildren: Sarah Denman, Brian Denman his wife, Megan, Melanie Daugherty and husband Aaron, Mandy Moss and husband, Clayton, Jason DeLancey and wife, Bridgett, Brandi Gooden and husband, B.J., Bradley DeLancey and wife, Lily, Adam DeLancey and wife, Porsche and Allison DeLancey. James also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Matthew and Landon Daugherty, Madison Carter, Samuel Moss, Alex and Dillon DeLancey and Alexxis Gooden. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 23rd, from 6-8 p.m. at Essex Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 24th at 10:30 a.m. at Unity Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Cedarcrest Memorials Gardens.
