Howard Laing

Howard Laing, 90, of North Little Rock, passed away peacefully at his home on March 28, 2011, surrounded by his daughters. Howard took great pride in being a Christian man and was formerly a member of Calvary Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He will always be remembered for his love of God and his family, and for his love of country and of the great outdoors. He was a gunnery sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Before his illness, he loved to work in his vegetable garden and grow beautiful roses. He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Howard Laing, mother, Creasey Louise Laing, and by his wife Dell Laing. Survivors include his sister, Elva Rhodes, of Hot Springs Ark.; daughters Sarah Howland, of Monroe, La., Virginia Miller and husband Ken Miller of Boise Idaho, Karen Teague of Monroe, and Janie Stecks and husband Gary Stecks of Mayflower, Ark.; grandchildren, Amy Devenney and husband Chad Devenney, Matthew Howland and his wife Ashley Howland; and great-grandchildren, Landen and Laurel Devenney and Ethan Howland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made the National Parkinson's Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, Md. 21741-5018. A graveside service will be held at Cutter Morning Star Cemetery in Hot Springs on Friday April 1, 2011, at 3 p.m. with The Rev. John McCallum officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Howland, Ken Miller, Chad Deveney, Gary Stecks, and Ronnie Rhoades. Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170.
