Mrs. Polly V. Bailey Pate, a resident of De Queen, went to be with our Lord, Monday, April 16, 2012 in St. Michael's Hospital. She was born to Charles Orben and Sweetie Malena Rutherford Bailey in Doddridge, Arkansas, on February 11, 1938. While working in Dallas, Texas, she met her husband and best friend, David Pate. She was co-owner of Bailey Discount Bldg. Supply, a professional artist of 38 years, as well as a homemaker. As a professional artist of 38 years, Polly Pate was recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, and has commissioned paintings on display in homes and businesses in several states. During her 29 years on the Cossatot Arts and Crafts Association, she was past President three times, and Treasurer and Historian. She served on the Arkansas League of Artists in Little Rock, and on the Board of directors and had served as Historian and Photographer. For the Four-States Regional Art Club, she had served as Historian and Photographer. There are many other art clubs and organizations of which she is a member. She has painted with notable artists Ken Hosmer and Italian Classical Renaissance Master Frank Covino. Though art was her passion, her true love and joy was the family and friends, and the laughter that filled her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Orben Bailey, and two granddaughters, Catarina Suzanne Smith, and Carrie Nichole. She is survived by her husband of over 53 years, David, their daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Carter Smith, and Suzanne and James Babb, all of De Queen, her beloved grandchildren are Katy and Quinn Smith, and Bailey and Tayler Babb and a host of kids and adults of all ages that affectionately knew her as "Grandy." She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Maxie Othel "Bill" and Barbara Bailey of Broken Bow, Okla., and a number of nieces and nephews. The viewing will be held by the family at Chandler Funeral Home on Thursday, April 19th from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services for Mrs. Polly Pate will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, April 23rd in the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jason Carlton and Bro. Joe Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in the Sweet Home Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
