Willis N. Green, 85, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at his home. He had lived in Jonesboro for fifty years, moving here from Cave City. He was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church. Willis was in the US Navy for two years serving on the USS Midway and the USS Kearsarge. He also served his country for two years in the US Army receiving the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. His military career spanned WWII and the Korean War. Willis was a past Post Commander for Disabled American Veterans and was a member for over 50 years. He was an advocate for disabled veterans assisting them to receive military benefits. Willis retired as a supervisor for the Crane Company. He was a member of the Civitan Club and the Lions Club. He loved to travel, use his talented hands in woodworking and the art of clock making. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Jimmie Landers Green; brothers, Marshall Green, Roy Green, Jake Green, Frankie Edmonson; sisters, Louise Green Diamond, Fern Green Brimhall and Shirley Green Bates. Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Shirley of the home; daughters, Sandra Hawkins; Sue Haggenmacher and husband Mark all of Jonesboro; Jennifer Culpepper of Jackson, Mississippi; step children, Melvin Gunter and Gina Gunter both of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Lauren Hendrix of Paragould, Tyler Haggenmacher and Patrick Haggenmacher both of Jonesboro; Kyle Gartman of Boulder, Colorado; Sgt. Ross Gartman, Afghanistan; Jake Welch of Malden, Missouri; great grandchildren, Ethan Hendrix and Harper Hendrix. He is additionally survived by Sister in Law Mrs. Ruth Robinson and family and Brother in Law Mr. Charles Landers and Family; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Mike Book officiating and Emerson in charge of arrangements. A Committal service will be 3:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Cave City Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be grandsons, Tyler Haggenmacher, Patrick Haggenmacher, Jake Welch, and Mark Haggenmacher, Rodney Hannah, Craig Hendrix. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Rogers, Stanley Hydrick, Bob Lovis, Junior Haggenmacher, Dr. Donald Guinn, Dr. Jerry Blaylock, Dr. Carroll Scroggins, Dr. J. Cranfill, Dr. John Sanford, Phil Bridger, John Parker, Gene Roebuck, Terry Handcock, David Bewley, and Tracy Meredith. Grandson, Sgt. Ross Gartman is serving his country in Afghanistan. While unable to attend the service, he will be able to watch the funeral services live via webcast streaming provided by Emerson Funeral Home.
