Robert Alan Davis Sr.

Mr. Robert A. Davis Sr., 79, of Hamburg died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mr. Davis was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1950 and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served for four years. He was a farmer until he retired in 1998, and he and his family were voted the Farm Family of the Year in 1965 and 1975. After his retirement, he worked for B&F Martin for 10 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg for 56 years, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, chairman of the board of trustees, chairman of the board, past choir member and Pioneer Club bus driver. He was the president of the Arkansas Rice Council from 1994-1995, past president of the Hamburg School Board and a member of the board from 1965 to 1974. He was a Century Member of the Boy Scouts of America and received an honorary Eagle Scout Award in 2010. He was also a member of the Hamburg City Council, Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department, Hamburg Kiwanis Club; past president of the Jacees and a school volunteer at Allbritton-Noble and Hamburg Junior High School. He also helped establish the Little League Baseball program in Hamburg. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt. He is preceded in death by a son, Milam Wayne Davis in 2007; his parents, H.M. "Mutt" and LaNelle Courson Davis and a brother, Dennis L. Davis in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Pryor Davis of Hamburg; two sons, Robert Alan Davis Jr. and wife, Kaye, and Cole River Davis; three daughters, Sharon Anne Hargis and husband, Jimmy G., Allie Kathrine and Hannah Rainey Davis, all of Hamburg; a brother, Donald Wayne Davis and wife, Becky, of Little Rock; five grandchildren, Anna Claire Greenhaw and husband, Eric, Mary Rosamond Crismon and husband, Ben, Philip Alan Davis, Matthew C. Hargis and Elizabeth Moseley and husband, Joseph, and three great-grandchildren, Paxon Milam Hargis, Bennett Jefferson Moseley and Hudson Michael Greenhaw. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Moore, Dr. Bobby Pennington, Rev. Carol Moore and Rev. Ben Crismon officiating.
