Lois Jewell Johnson, 92, of Jacksonville passed away peacefully on May 2, 2012 at North Metro Medical Center in Jacksonville from complications due to a broken hip. Lois was a longtime resident of Jacksonville having moved here in 1955 with her husband, Guy, a retired Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. She was born in Rosser, Texas on October 26, 1919 and went to school in Victoria, Texas where she met Guy and they married there in June of 1941. On May 17, 1944 they became the proud parents of their only child, Elizabeth Nan. The family moved to Jacksonville where Lois became a first grade teacher at Jacksonville Elementary in 1955. Lois taught there until her retirement in 1990. She began her teaching career much earlier in Casablanca, Texas in 1939 in a one room school house with 14 children varying from age six to seventeen. Her teaching was interrupted by her husband's Air Force career. She had an impact on the lives of many youngsters who still remember Mrs. Johnson, my first grade teacher." After retirement from teaching in 1990, Lois remained active in the Retired Teachers Association, ARMETS (retired military wives) and the Jacksonville Seniors Center. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Victoria, Texas, but attended many churches in the Jacksonville area. Lois and her husband, Guy, were involved in real estate development in Jacksonville and built Johnson Plaza Shopping Center and a subdivision near Wal-Mart. They resided on Lee Street in Jacksonville. Lois was the last surviving member of her family which included her brothers, Pat and Gray and her sister, Mayree. She has one daughter, Elizabeth Green of Cabot, three grandchildren; Tad Adam Green, Scott Arnold Green and Tracy M. Gore. She has four great-grandchildren, Tucker Green, Lara Beth, Ashley and Casy Gore. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2012 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Little Rock National Cemetery.
