Harvy Albert Robins died May 17, 2012 from Parkinson's disease. He was born at Ash Flat, Arkansas on February 8, 1920 to the late R.A. and Alma Robins. He graduated from Ash Flat High School, was a member of the 1939 Ash Flat state champion basketball team before there were divisions. He attended Harding College. He was a Christian since 1936. He served as Deacon at the Downtown Church of Christ more than 50 years. He worshiped at the Westside Church of Christ since May 2007. Mr. Robins attended the Darr School of Aeronautics in Ponca City, Oklahoma and volunteered for the Army Air Force in October 1942. He spent 27 months at the Stuttgart, Arkansas Air Base serving as crew chief for the Colonel's plane. He was transferred to the China, Burman, India Theater, servicing fighter planes that flew "The Hump" and was in Shanghai when the war ended. Harvy met Amy Glendyne McLeod in 1939 and they were married June 6, 1942. They were blessed with one son, Bruce Robins. Following Harvy's military service, he attended night school for Veterans and managed the Allis-Chalmers Tractor Agency in Searcy for 5 years. He became a representative for Orgill Brothers of Memphis for 33 1/2 years. After retirement he was a driver for different auto agencies. His wife said, "He loves the smell of new vehicles and drives because they couldn't afford a new one." He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ritchie; Cleo; Noble; J.C; Bernice Baker and Theda Miller; grandson, Matthew Robins. Survivors include his wife of almost 70 years, Amy Robins of Searcy; son, Bruce (Patrice) Robins; granddaughter, Mandy (Jason) Ouellette and great-grandson, Jacob Ouellette all of Laurel, MD; several nephews, nieces and friends. Services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. prior to the service. A private interment will be at White County Memorial Gardens. Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Searcy Children's Home, 509 N. Main, Searcy, Arkansas 72143.
