Albert Matthews Raymond

Albert Matthews Raymond, 90, of Conway passed away on May 19, 2012 after a brief illness. He was a professor for 36 years at Hendrix College, where he was the Virginia A. Pittman Professor of Biology, Emeritus, and Associate Academic Dean of the College. He was born in Little Rock on Sept. 27, 1921 to Albert Rose and Lena Matthews Raymond. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, James Calvin (Tudy) Raymond, who died in service to his country during W.W. II. He attended public school in Little Rock and was educated further at the University of Arkansas, Vanderbilt University and the University of Michigan. His area of specialization was neuroanatomy. He served three years in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He was a member of the Conway Kiwanis Club for over 50 years and served as President. He was a member of the Western Star Lodge No. 2 of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite of Freemasons and the First United Methodist Church. He was a highly respected teacher, avid train enthusiast, spontaneous and adventurous traveler and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eloise Weir Raymond and two daughters, Jennie Elizabeth Raymond (Carl D. Hudson) and Amy Eloise Raymond (Scott B. Snyder), and two grandchildren, Rachel Eloise Raymond Snyder and Grant Brady Raymond Snyder. Services will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Conway with Reverend Charles Murrary officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial Park, Little Rock. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, Conway. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either of the Albert M. Raymond endowed scholarships at Hendrix College or to the First United Methodist Church in Conway.
