Gladys Mullins Briscoe, 89, of Little Rock, passed to her Lord on May 23, 2012. Gladys was a bird whisperer, flower enthusiast, family scrap booker, community activist, loved politics and travel, and a passionate mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gladys loved people! She smiled big to bring joy to others. When picking her up for an appointment, an extra 30 minutes was required while she worked the room on her way out the door. She dressed impeccably and wouldn't go out without her makeup, including green or blue eye shadow, even to the ER! Dining table buddies are everything at a retirement center. Friends Jackie Wage at Good Shepherd and Virginia Miller at Emeritus Chenal Heights kept her engaged. Few people are happy with the food either, but Doran Dungey had a gift for listening and trying. Gladys was married to Joseph Wallis Briscoe, Jr. (now 92) for 29 years. After they divorced, they continued to attend family functions together out of respect for their 5 children. They are Joe Briscoe, III (Lucy Rhodes); Mary Ann Campbell (Guy); Virginia Tustison (Jody); David Briscoe (Debbie); and Mark Briscoe (Gail). Those who called her Nana are John Campbell (Jennifer); Bethany Lokken (Spencer); Sandra Kaye Courtois (Jon Lawrence); Alecia Briscoe; Greg Campbell (Cheryl); Mario Arbelaez (Lucero); Liz Johnson (Lanny); and Becky James (Jason.) Her Great-grandchildren include Ashley and Abigail Courtois; Walker Campbell and Whitney Ziegenhorn; Geoffrey and Whitney Campbell; Sebastian and Catalina Arbelaez; Brandon Tidwell and Nick James. Special thanks to Dr. Susan Beland, Dr. Jeanne Wei, and the outstanding teams of doctors, nurses, and CNAs at UAMS for giving our mother nine lives. Hospice Home Care on Bowman eased her passing following her stroke. Visitation will be held Saturday morning, May 26, 2012 from 10-11 a.m. with her service immediately following at 11 a.m. at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, (501) 224-8300, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211. Mabelvale was her chosen community in which to live and rear her five children. She loved the people, the schools, and her church. Memorials may be made to Mabelvale Methodist Church, 10500 Woodman St., Mabelvale, Ark. 72103. To share memories online www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/chenal.
