Polly Foster Leidy passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the age of 91 in Newport, Ark. She was born July 21, 1920 in Kansas City, Mo. to Earl and Naomi (Price) Foster. Polly's family moved to Little Rock, Ark., when she was a small child. While attending Little Rock High School, she met the love of her life, Charles Allison "Cal" Leidy. While he began his Army Air Corp career at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas, she completed high school. They were married on Dec. 27, 1939 in Little Rock. Their first station was at Langley Field, Va. They were stationed at a number of bases during the war. Their son, William Charles, was born while in Boise, Idaho on July 22, 1942. Post war, they returned to Little Rock and lived there for the next 23 years. In 1968, they moved to Newport, Ark., for what was supposed to be a temporary stay. They soon found that this was the place they wanted to spend the rest of their lives. Both were active in civic activities, the Newport Country Club, and the First United Methodist Church of Newport. Polly served as a volunteer secretary for the church, was active in United Methodist Women, and took particular pride in her frequent service as liturgist for the Sunday services. Cal preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by her son, Bill, his wife Ruth; her grandson, Robert, his wife Katherine; and her great-granddaughter, Allison, all of whom live in Norman, Okla. Polly will be interred beside her husband at Walnut Grove Cemetery. No service will be held. The family will have their own graveside remembrance. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Newport. "One who regarded silence as something to be filled up is, alas, now silent." Arrangements by Jackson's Newport Funeral Home. www.jacksonsfh.com.
