Tacy Stone Reed, 87, a longtime resident of 225 N. Mississippi Avenue in Little Rock, Arkansas, died peacefully in her home on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Reed was a native of Conway, Arkansas where she was born to Joseph Clem Stone and Virgie Malitta King Stone on December 17, 1925. She was the youngest of five children born to the couple. Mrs. Reed attended Conway Public Schools graduating from Conway High School in 1943. Following high school she began nurses training in Little Rock at St. Vincent Infirmary, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. It was a couple of years into her career that she met the love of her life, Orval L. Reed, as she was attending his mother who was in the hospital following minor surgery. The two began dating and soon fell in love resulting in their February 18, 1948 marriage. The young couple made their home in Little Rock and spent the next 20 years raising their two daughters who ultimately presented them with five grandsons. During her early nursing career she worked at various facilities including St. Vincent Infirmary and Arkansas State Hospital. Later she joined the Pulaski County Health Department as a public health nurse where she was employed from 1956 until her retirement as Nurse Supervisor in 1980. After a few years of retirement, Mrs. Reed's work ethic got the best of her, and she joined the American Red Cross in a part time position as a traveling nurse who traveled the state in the Red Cross travel bus collecting blood donations. Following several years in this position, she joined her husband's insulation business as office manager where she remained until her second retirement in 1988. At that time she fully invested in being an active and loving grandmother thoroughly enjoying her five grandsons. She enjoyed many adventures and travels with them during these years. She was their number one cheerleader at their various sports activities. Mrs. Reed was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing on the Arkansas River with her husband and family. In the 1950's Mrs. Reed and her husband joined Trinity United Methodist Church where they spent many enjoyable Sunday mornings sitting with their "pew buddies" at the early service. In addition to her late husband, Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Nola Stone and Jesse Stone, both of Conway, and John Stone of Green Cove Springs, Florida. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Frances S. Meyer of Little Rock, two daughters, Vicki Reed Hall (Buddy), of Little Rock, Deborah Goldie Hess (Jack), of North Canton, Ohio, five grandsons, Robert Goldie, (Nancy) of North Canton, Ohio, Michael Goldie (Krista), of Canton, Ohio, John Moody of Little Rock, Reed Moody of Washington, D.C., and Lawson Moody, of Little Rock. She also leaves behind six great granddaughters, Celeste, Samantha, Honorae, Olivia, Alyssa, and Anna, and two great grandsons, Kobe and Tate. Mrs. Reed is also survived by seven nieces, Marilyn Thomas, Patti Eskola, Susan Fine, Kay Hanson, Janet Stone-Erdman, Marie Jones, and Lanelta Stone. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Hospice Home Care for their gentle professionalism, and for Mrs. Kina Hayes, professional caregiver, for her gentle and loving attendance of our mother in her final days. Tacy Reed will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, and she will be remembered especially for her warm, sweet smile and her adventurous spirit. She will be laid to rest in Pine Crest Memorial Park following a 1 p.m. memorial service on Friday, April 5, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Little Rock.
