Timothy Edward Woods

TIMOTHY EDWARD WOODS was born in Little Rock on July 8, 1915, to Fannie Mae (Bradford) and John Timothy Woods. He died April 4, 2013 at the age of 97. Tim lived his entire life in Little Rock where he was educated in Catholic grade schools and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1933. Tim married Dorothy Garrett in 1940 and they were married for 67 years until her death in 2006. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Edward(Ann) Woods of San Antonio, Texas; Timothy(Gayle) Woods of Montgomery, Texas and Nancy Woods of Des Moines, Iowa. Tim was equally proud of his surviving grandchildren, Brian(Meredith) Woods, David(Sarah) Woods, Jennifer(Clinton) Heard, Michael(Tami) Woods and Laura(Christopher) McQuinn and 10 beautiful great-grandchildren. In addition, Tim is survived by his brother Joe R. Woods of Dallas, Texas & many nieces & nephews. Tim was a longtime active participant in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a scout and as a leader. He was Cub Master and Scoutmaster to Ed and Tim, taught adult education classes and was Scoutmaster of the second, third and fourth Wood Badge courses. He was very proud of his four-bead Scoutmaster rating. In 1965, the Boy Scout Council honored him with the Silver Beaver award. Tim was a Telephone Pioneer volunteer both during his employment with Southwestern Bell and after his retirement in 1979. He was later recognized as Mr. Pioneer for the state of Arkansas. For 50 years, he repaired cassette players for the talking books program for the blind. He and Dorothy weekly read the news to the blind over a special radio station. Tim was an AARP coordinator for the Little Rock district as well as a kitchen worker for the local Life Quest program. He also volunteered at the VA Hospital for over 25 years. Tim was a communicant of Christ the King Catholic Church and was an active participant in the Agape class at St. James Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4002 N Rodney Parham Rd. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, 2801 Asher Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ronald McDonald House, 1907 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030.
