Rev. Samuel Edward Elrod, age 88, of Malvern was called Home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. He was born in Casscoe, Arkansas on January 1, 1925. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel Denton and Zora Jane Sutton Elrod; his brother, Howard Elrod and sister, Beulah Cates. Bro. Eddie was a 1957 graduate of Ouachita Baptist College and pastored many churches throughout his ministry. He began his ministry at Whiteville in Mt. Home. Other churches he served were Austin Station Baptist in Austin, Northside Baptist in Monticello, Elaine Baptist in Elaine, Plainview Baptist in Little Rock and First Baptist in Thornton. His last pastorate was at Calvary Baptist Church, in Malvern, where after his retirement he was named Pastor Emeritus. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Edwards Elrod. They were married on April 9, 1949 in DeWitt, Arkansas. He is also survived by his two sons, Garry Elrod (Melissa) and Larry Elrod (Fayrene); daughter, Jan Rollans (Keith); grandchildren, Jonathan Elrod (Suzanne), Colby Elrod (Emily), Madeline Elrod, Tisha Launius (Michael), Erin Carter (J.T.), Carey Taylor (John Mark), Hannah Rollans; 10 great-grandchildren, Cody, Cason, Kaleigh, and Cord Launius, Jackson and Samuel Carter, Riley John Canaan and Jude Taylor and soon-to-come, Olivia Elrod. Visitation will be held at Regency Funeral Home, in Malvern, on Thursday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Services will be at Calvary Baptist Church, in Malvern, at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 12. A Graveside Service will be held at Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens, in DeWitt, at 3:30 p.m. Pallbearers at the Funeral Service will be Bill Norman, Robert Rook, Eddie Younger, Rick Harper, Todd McElroy and Rufus Vaught. Pallbearers at the Graveside Service will be his grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are George Burns and the doctors and nurses from the Longevity Center at UAMS.
