Chester Edward "Jed" Smith, Sr, 69, of Scott went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, April 17, 2013. The cause was chronic pulmonary disease. He was born in England, Arkansas on December 18, 1943. Jed was preceded in death by his father and mother Robert & Ruth (Willis) Smith; brother Donnie Smith & sister, Floy Mae White. Jed is survived by his two sons Chester Edward Smith Jr. and Paul V. Smith and daughter-in-law Catherine Smith of Scott, Arkansas; grandchildren, Thomas Smith of Georgia and Michael Smith of Bryant, Arkansas; great-granddaughters, Savannah & Abbie Smith of Georgia; his sister Helen (Bob) Montgomery and brothers Sherman (Lois) Smith, Earlie Smith, Billy Smith and Jimmy Napp (Dorothy), several nieces, nephews and longtime devoted companion & sweetheart Carolyn Phillips of England, Arkansas. Jed was a member of Toltec Baptist Church. He was a farm mechanic and a successful owner of Smith Farm & Welding of Scott and one of those people who knew everyone and everyone considered a friend. He started most of his days before dawn and ended after sundown but made time to visit the local coffee shop to swap stories. He loved to play music and sing but most of all visiting with friends and family. Visitation will be 4:30-7 P.p.m. on Saturday, April 20th at Toltec Baptist Church in Scott, Arkansas. Funeral will be held on Sunday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Toltec Baptist Church, 1139 Toltec Road, Scott, Arkansas with Brother Otis Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Cobb Cemetery, Keo, Arkansas. Arrangements by Arkansas Funeral Care of Jacksonville, 2620 W. Main St., Jacksonville, Arkansas.
