Loyd Richmond Sims, 88, of North Little Rock went to be with God on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 surrounded by his family. Loyd is survived by his wife of 65 years, Freda Cargill Sims of North Little Rock, two sons, Ben Sims of Little Rock and Marty Sims of Falls Church, Virginia, a nephew Stephen Sims of Scott and niece, Janet Corcoran of Leawood, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert W. and Elsie McSpadden Sims; three brothers, Wayne and MacRae Sims of Batesville and his twin brother, Floyd H. Sims of North Little Rock; and a sister, Bernice Cossey also of Batesville. Loyd served 28 years as an employee of the Arkansas Army National Guard at Camp Robinson, retiring as a Sergeant Major. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 25th Infantry Division of the United States Army, South Pacific. He fought in the Battles of the Philippines-Luzon, Guadalcanal and many more pivotal campaigns of the South Pacific region. He was a member of the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ having served as a deacon for over 20 years. He loved his church family and enjoyed the good memories and relationships developed over the 60+ years of involvement with the church. The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff from the North Little Rock Davita Clinic for there continuous love and support of our father through his battle with Kidney Disease. Donations may be made to the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ Building Fund or the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org/support/. A visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m., at Sylvan Hills Church of Christ, 117 West Maryland Ave, Sherwood.
