Mrs. Tommie Lea Rhodes, age 87, of Gurdon, Arkansas passed away, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at her home in Gurdon. She was born July 8, 1925, in Memphis, Tennessee, to James Luther and Ida Mae Rice Welch. She married the love of her life Lymon "Sip" Rhodes in 1944. Mrs. Rhodes was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Beech Street Baptist Church in Gurdon. She enjoyed spending time working in the yard, sewing, and quilting. She won several blue ribbons for her quilts and many people enjoyed having a "Mrs. Rhodes quilt". Mrs. Rhodes will be remembered for her kind heart and her generous spirit. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jr. Welch, and two sisters, Louise Laxson and Frances Laxson. Mrs. Rhodes is survived by her husband of 68 years, Lymon "Sip" Rhodes of Gurdon, a son Jackie Rhodes and wife Cindy of Gurdon, two daughters, Patricia Childres and husband Jerry Don of Gurdon and Carolyn Rhodes of Conway, three grandchildren, Stacey Blackard, Jeff Rhodes and Greg Rhodes and wife April, two great-grandchildren, Carter Rhodes and Emma Kate Rhodes, numerous other family members and a host of friends. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2013, at Beech Street Baptist Church in Gurdon, Mr. Billy Tarpley and Mr. Albert Thomas officiating.
