William "Billy" Mims Wells III, 75, of Gurdon, Ark., died April 19, 2013 in Arkadelphia, Ark. Billy was born March 22, 1938 in Prescott, Ark. to William "Bill" Mims Wells II and Hazel Pauline "Beckie" Sullivan. Billy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gurdon. He was Gurdon citizen of the year 2004, president of Arkansas Telafloral Unit 1980 thru 1982, president of Arkansas Florists Association in 1981 and very active with the state conventions, co-director of Gurdon Folies from 1973 to 1980. He helped along with two others form the CD&E Club and was an active member for 45 years. He originated the Go Devil Bash 15 years ago and was honored by being named Mr. Bash in 2010. Billy was coordinator of the Gurdon Forest Festival and Forest Festival Pagents. He judged numerous pageants along with several Miss Arkansas related pageants. Billy was responsible for the beautiful floral arrangments at The First United Methodist Church each Sunday. He attended four years of school at SAU and was a SAU Cheerleader. Billy had a full life and all his accomplishments are too numerous to list. Billy is preceded in death by his parents. Billy is survived by his brother, George Robert "Bobby" Wells and wife Marge of Gurdon, Ark.; two nieces, Tori Wells Deaver and husband Butch and Jaime Wells Ledbetter and husband Randy both of Gurdon, Ark.; one great-niece, Baylie Deaver and two great-nephews, Reid and Rhett Ledbetter all of Gurdon, Ark., and a host of family and friends. Graveside service will be Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Rose Hedge Cemetery with Mike McKenzie officiating under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon.
