Billy Richardson Bobbie Lou (Weakley) Hood

A joint memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, for Billy Richardson Hood and Bobbie Lou (Weakley) Hood, who died within weeks of one another in Des Moines. The service will be at Iles Funeral Homes, Grandview Park Chapel, located at 3211 Hubbell Avenue, in Des Moines. They were high school sweethearts, graduating from Nicholas Blackwell High School in Bartlett, Tenn., and were married March 11, 1948, 65 years. Mr. Hood was born March 15, 1927 in Arlington, Tenn., a son of George King Hood and Clara Richardson Hood. Mrs. Hood was born October 3, 1928 in Memphis, Tenn., a daughter of Travis Herring Weakley and Martha Floy (Brockwell) Weakley. Mr. Hood served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the destroyer USS Welles. He worked for the USF&G Insurance Co. for 38 years in Memphis and Nashville, Tenn.; Baltimore, MD; Des Moines and Little Rock, Ark. He was the general manager for Iowa and later general manager for Arkansas in Little Rock. Mrs. Hood held various positions, was active socially and raised three children. The couple retired in 1989 to Springfield, Mo., from where they spent several years traveling the United States, Canada and Mexico by recreational vehicle. They later moved to West Des Moines and then The Reserve in Urbandale, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Hood are survived by three children, Marshall Gordon Hood of Columbus, Ohio, Martin Gary Hood of Urbandale and Luanne (Hood) Sellner of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Jessica Sellner of Las Vegas, Nev. and Casey and Kenzie Sellner both of Pleasant Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorial contribution be made to either your local hospice or to Alzheimer's disease association.
