Charles R. McClain, 88, of Conway, died in his sleep on Monday, April 22, 2013 already surrounded by Earth's angles, the nursing staff of the John McClellan V.A. Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. He was born in Hannibal, Mo. on January 7, 1925. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Corp., the 65th Fighter Wing, in the European Theater. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Morris McClain and two daughters, Brenda McClain also of Conway and Pat McClain of Sheridan, Ark. Also surviving is a sister, Frances Stombaugh and a brother, Delmar McClain, both of Hannibal; a brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Judy Morris of Eureka, Ill.; several nephews, nieces and their families; a step-granddaughter, Cindy and her husband John Puckett, great-grandchildren, Morgan, Brianna, and Zachary of Quincy, Ill. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Hazel McClain; brothers, Earl, Leroy , Robert and Carl McClain; sisters, Leona Dwyer, Elnora Hendren, and baby Wilma. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, April 26th, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, with Rev. Randy Long presiding. He will be buried with full military honors at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway, Ark., with Charlie Dains, Ronald Pearce, Jim Pearce, Mark Stiefvater, Al McCorkle, and Dickey Fortner, serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25th, at the funeral home. Friends and neighbors supported Charles and his family during his long illness and mourn his death.
