William "Bill" Gibson, Jr

Dr. William "Bill" H. Gibson, Jr. was born on January 28, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the only child of William Howard Gibson Sr. and Thelma Brown Gibson of Marion, Arkansas. Bill spent his early years in Marion with his mother. At the age of 13, he moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he completed his high school, undergraduate, and post-graduate studies. He later enrolled in the Howard University School of Dentistry and returned to St. Louis for his dental residency at Homer G. Phillips Hospital. Later he was one of the founding dentists of the Yeatman Health Center of St. Louis. Dr. Gibson enjoyed a successful dental practice at the corner of Delmar and Midland in University City, Missouri for more than 30 years. He retired after 10 additional years, first as director of dentistry for the St. Louis County Health Department and later as director of dentistry for the Missouri Department of Corrections. Dr. Gibson recently relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas to be near his extended family and life-long friends and to enjoy retirement. He united with the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church a few days before he became ill. He departed this life early Wednesday morning April 17, 2013. Those who will continue to love him and cherish his memory are a son, William Ross Gibson of Los Angeles, Calif.; step-daughter, Elizabeth Frances Mayo of Martinez, Calif.; first cousin and childhood playmate, Dr. William Woods Sr. of Little Rock; first cousin, Geraldine Brown of Marion, Ark.; Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Hamilton of St. Louis, Mo.; dear friends , Ms. Cheri Kirby of Houston, Texas and Dr. Roosevelt Brown (Irma) of Little Rock, Ark.; former wife, Vivian Gibson of St. Louis, Mo. and many other relatives, friends, and colleagues in Arkansas, St. Louis, and cities throughout the country. Funeral services for Dr. William H. Gibson will be Thursday, April 25, 2013, 1 p.m., at Canaan Missionary Baptist Chuurch, 1700 S. State St., Little Rock, Ark. Interment will be on Friday, 11 a.m., at Marion Memorial Cemetery, Marion, Ark. Viewing: Thursday, 12-1 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
