Billie Jean West left her earthly home to be with her heavenly Father Friday, April 26, 2013, following a five year courageous battle with cancer. She was an inspiration to others for her positive attitude. She was born in Gillett, Ark., on Oct. 22, 1933. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Mora and Sigle Swain; her husband, Gentry West and daughter, Linda Branham Horton. Survived by daughter, Sheila Williams (Jody) of McGehee; six grandchildren, Michael and Chris Bartz, Cody Bartz House (Lucas), Jamie Stroud (Scotty), Alicia Horton and Teddy Chadwich; also nine great-grandchildren. Others surviving her are sisters, Betty Fuhrman, Barbara Menard and Bonnie Wilbanks, all of Gillett, and a brother, Rev. Jack C. Bates of Star City; a sister-in-law and wonderful friend, Josie Padgett of Ethel and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom brought great joy to her. Billie was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Gillett. She willingly served in many capacities in her lifetime and touched many lives by her strong faith and trust as she set the example in always showing her love and gentle spirit to everyone. She retired as a cafeteria worker from the Gillett School District. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Eddie Hord and the wonderful staff at Stuttgart Baptist Memorial for their care and compassionate spirit in caring for our loved one. A celebration of Billie's life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 29 at First Baptist Church, Gillett with Rev. Joe Johnson officiating.
