Dortha Mae (King) Smith, 86, passed away in Hot Springs on August 8, 2013, while under the care of Arkansas Hospice. Born on February 24, 1927 in Pine Bluff to Walter and Mamie King, she was the youngest of six children. Dortha Mae lived most of her life in Nashville, AR married to Barney B Smith, who preceded her in death in1998 after 50 years of marriage. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School and attended the University of Arkansas and Hendrix College. Most of her post-college life was in the work force, having worked as a bookkeeper for Ark-La Gas, Robinson's Department Store, the Nashville Elementary School as a secretary, Administrator of the Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in Nashville, and was three times elected as the Howard County Clerk. She is survived by two sons, Barney (Bee) Smith, Jr, of Nashville, Ark., Walter L (Bubba) Smith and wife Diane of Hot Springs Village, Ark., one daughter, Julia Ann Dunlap and husband Michael of Jonesboro, Ark., four grandchildren, Kathleen Dunlap and Will Dunlap, Meredith (Smith) Caver and Will Smith, and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Kate Caver, many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation for the professional and compassionate care that she received at Mercy Hospital and Arkansas Hospice. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Nashville, Ark. at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, with Rev. James Harris, Rev. David Wilson and Dr. Walter Smith officiating.
