They had one son. Richard married his second wife, Sarah Davis, in 1987 and moved to Hot Springs, Ark. where they lived until she passed away in 2001. They were married for 14 years.  He then moved to Greenbrier to be close to his son, daughter-in-law & grandson. He spent his last few years in the wonderful care of Greenbrier Nursing & Rehab. Richard was of the Baptist faith and taught Sunday school for many years. He was the first vice-president of CAIS and president for four terms. He was the first program chairman, the first show chairman, and the first to win Queen of the Show. He grew many blue ribbon winners and has many awards to show for his hybridized iris. In 2010 he won the Mary Swords DeBallion Medal for his Louisiana Iris, Night Thunder. Richard was an AIS judge and a Retired Master Judge. He is survived by his son Richard (Johanna), one grandson Matt (Brook), and one great-grandson, James.
