Marie Plair Birkhead

Marie Plair Birkhead, 66, of El Dorado passed away at her home on August 14, 2013. She was born April 30, 1947 to Samuel Max and Gertrude Grantham Plair. Marie graduated from Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in education and taught 3rd grade at Old Union School for 36 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Union County Master Gardeners, past chairman of the Union County Women's Farm Bureau Committee, a volunteer at the Union County Agricultural Extension Office and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of El Dorado for more than 40 years. She is preceded in death by her parents. Marie is survived by her companion of 20 years, Melvin Posey of El Dorado, one brother Samuel Max Plair Jr. of Strong, one sister Virginia "Ginger" Plair Cheatham and her husband State Senator Eddie Cheatham of Crossett, one nephew Seth Cheatham, a niece Gina Cheatham Wall, three great-nephews and one great-niece. Visitation will be Friday August 16, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Perry's Funeral Chapels. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 17 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sam Shepperson officiating with burial to follow at Ebenezer Presbyterian Cemetery under the direction of Perry's Funeral Chapels.
