Sgt. JAMAR AVERY HICKS, 22, of Little Rock, Ark., departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, in Dzadran, Afghanistan. Sgt. Hicks was born on Aug. 11, 1991 in Helena, Ark. At the age of 11, Hicks moved to Little Rock, Ark. and was a 2009 graduate of Hall High School. He was a decorated United States Army Sergeant having received the Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. Hicks is survived by his spouse, Debra T. Evans of Chicago, Ill.; son, Jamar A. Hicks Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; mother, Hope (Kenneth) Jacobs-Sharpe of Little Rock, Ark.; father, James (Lawanda) Hicks of Memphis, Tenn.; siblings, Ashley (Gilbert) Richards, Sean Daniels, James Hicks, Evan Hicks, Joshua Hicks, Jamee Hicks, Ashleigh Watson, Kenisha Sharpe, Kamarrius Sharpe, K.J. Sharpe, Montrell Reid; and a host of other relatives, friends, and comrades. Family hour will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at Robinson Mortuary Chapel, LR. Memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, 11 a.m. at Theressa Hoover United Methodist Church, 4000 W 13th St., Little Rock, Ark.
