Mrs. LaWanna Plyler, age 86 of Prescott, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 24, in Hillcrest Care & Rehabilitation in Prescott, Ark. Mrs. Plyler was born April 26, 1927, to Jess Clifton and Beatrice Estelle Hodge George, the last of seven children, in Gurdon, Ark. She graduated from Gurdon High School in 1945; on July 15 of the same year she married Al J. Plyler of Bluff City, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Al J Plyler, her daughters: Sharon Bard and husband Kent of Hot Springs, Sheila Virden and husband Bill of Prescott; grandchildren: Colbi Lasiter Gossage of Fayetteville, Dr. Scott Virden and wife Rachel of Cumming, Ga.; great-granddaughter; Stella Gossage of Fayetteville and great-grandson, Will Virden of Cumming, Ga. (unborn); sister-in-law; Fern George of San Antonio, Texas and Betty Dean of Dallas, Texas area; brother-in-law, Frank Plyler and wife, Sona of Little Rock and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker who was a wonderful cook, seamstress, quilter, crafter and gardener. She was very active in her children's and grandchildren's lives; their "Mimi" was always teaching, nurturing, and loving. Through the years, Mrs. Plyler served her community as PTA president, PHS band booster officer, Nevada County Hospital Pink Lady, garden club president, and Prescott Elementary volunteer. She made a profession of faith early in life and was baptized in Gurdon Lake. She was active as a member of the church choir; president of the WMU; volunteer at Hillcrest for more than 25 years as a Bible study teacher, song leader, and server; VBS director and teacher; Sunday School teacher for more than 55 years; and volunteer at First Baptist Dorcas House. Because Mrs. Plyler had such a heart for missions, the family asks that memorials be made in her honor to the new First Baptist Church Mission Building. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 in De Ann Cemetery in Prescott. Bro. Frank Henson and Dr. Richard Brown will officiate the service. Burial to follow.
