C.W. Bill Kinslow, Jr.

C. W. "Bill" Kinslow, Jr. 93 of El Dorado died Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home. Born October 11, 1919 in Hedley, Texas he was the son of Charles William, Sr. and Minnie Louise Williams Kinslow. He lived in Hedley until his family moved to Memphis, Texas in 1925 when his father purchased the Texaco Wholesale Distributorship. After graduating from Memphis High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin. After his father's death, he took over the Texaco business and one month after Pearl Harbor was attacked, he volunteered for the U. S. Navy. He was entered into the V-7 program and after returning to the university and graduating, he was sent to Midshipman's School at Columbia University in New York City. After 90 days of training, he was commissioned as an ensign. After Amphibious Training School, he was assigned as a gunnery officer on the USS LST 125. His ship served in the Pacific Theater and participated in the six invasions of Japanese-held islands. After the war, he returned to his Texaco business. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for two years and was a full lieutenant when he resigned from the reserve. In 1949 he married Mary Frances Henry in Little Rock and their first son Charlie, was born in 1950. In 1952, the family moved to El Dorado, where he purchased the Texaco Petroleum Distributorship. In 1954, their second son, Henry was born. During his business years, Kinslow was active in the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, where he served two terms on the board of directors and he was also active in the Kiwanis Club. In 1980, he sold his business after agreeing to manage it until 1985, when he retired. His wife Mary Frances, died in 2001 and in 2006 he married Sallylu Holmes in Little Rock, and they have resided in El Dorado since that time. Preceding him in death along with his parents and wife Mary Frances was a sister Mary Helyn Williams. Survivors include his wife Sallylu Kinslow, of El Dorado, two sons, Charles William Kinslow, III (Dona) of Little Rock and Henry C. Kinslow (Dr. Ivory) of El Dorado. Also surviving are two step-sons, Doug Holmes (Debra) of North Little Rock and Richard Holmes (Jeanene) of Peachtree City, Ga. Surviving grandchildren are Paige Marie Huffaker, Charles William Kinslow IV, Rachel Amanda Kinslow, Cade, Tanner, Daniel and Anna Holmes along with great-grandchildren, William Michael Huffaker, IV and Lydia Ruth Huffaker. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Philip Faris officiating. A private interment will be held at Arlington Memorial Park The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at Young's Funeral Directors.
