Dr. Larry M. Henderson, age 65, of Sherwood died December 2,2013 after a long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 6th, 1947 to P.W. and Eunice Henderson of England, Ark. Larry chose to write his own obituary as follows. To my family and friends: I chose to write my final thoughts to my loved ones. This should in no way convey any feelings of self importance or ego on my part, it is just a final goodbye to all of my family and dear friends. First and foremost in my life is my family with my living and loving God as head of my family. We should always give full credit for our blessings to our personal savior Jesus Christ. I practiced dentistry in Little Rock and Sherwood for 32 years, from 1976 until my retirement in 2008. I was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, Arkansas Dental Association, Central District Association and the Pulaski County Dental Association. During that time I met many kind and wonderful people that I considered to be my patients and friends. I attended Henderson State in 1965 and transferred to Little Rock University. In 1970 I received my B.S. degree in biology and chemistry from Little Rock University, in 1972 I received my M.S. degree in zoology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, and in 1976 I was granted my Doctorate of Dentistry from the University of Louisville. After graduation in 1976 I moved back to Arkansas and began practicing Dentistry with Drs. John Butler and Jim Burleson in Little Rock, later moving in 1977 to Sherwood to go into private practice. My father P.W. Henderson, mother Eunice, brothers William Pat and Lindsey Henderson all predeceased me. My surviving family members are my beloved wife, Vickie of Sherwood, daughter Kimberly McAndrew, and granddaughter, Scout of Northridge California, my son, Michael Patrick Henderson, his wife, Shellie and granddaughters, Savannah Henderson and Sheridan Arnold of Sherwood. Stepsons, Matthew Daniel and Michael Daniel, and grandson, Gunner and granddaughter, Madison Daniel all of Sherwood. Mother-in-law, Mrs. Jo Raney, brother-in-law, Paul Raney and nephew-in-law, Sheldon Raney, all of Little Rock. Mrs. Francine Smith, loving mother-in-law, of West Memphis, who helped me through some very trying times in my life. As a child I attended Caney Creek Baptist Church in Pettus, Arkansas and later was baptized into the Landmark Baptist Church of England, Arkansas. In 1995 I began bible studies with Dr. Arnold Murry of Shepherds Chapel in Gravette, Arkansas. I would like to request that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital. The dedicated doctors and nurses saved my granddaughter Savannah's life. There is no doubt that if we had not had A.C.H., she would not have survived her injuries. Through my long battle with cancer I owe a great deal of thanks to Drs. Tony Bucolo and Joe Beck II and their wonderful staffs. A special thanks goes out to all of the nurses at the St. Vincent Oncology Infusion and 7th floor nursing staff. This was a long and hard journey that we must all take and I pray to God that you all get your own special group of caring nurses and doctors to help you on your journey. I have to express how special and wonderful my wife Vickie has been to me and all of our family during these many years of struggle. We all look forward to an eternity together with our Lord and savior in heaven. In conclusion all my best wishes and love to my patients and friends, and with the grace of God, we will be together again. Visitation will be held Friday December 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, NLR, Arkansas 72117. (501) 835-3515.
