Barbara Faye Vadney Maxwell, our dearest daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt was reunited with her Savior on Thursday, Nov. 21. Barbara was a vibrant 56 years old when she was called home while in the care of Haven Hospice of Gainesville, Florida after a 10 month battle with Non-Hodkins Lymphoma. Barbara was and will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. She was a beautiful soul and will be terribly missed. Barb was a cheerful presence and had a charming wit, unmatched by most accounts. She loved to read, visit with family and friends, and travel to her beloved Alaska whenever time permitted. She will always be remembered by her children as an "incredible mother" who provided a compassionate guidance and appreciation of all things God created. She was extremely active in her children's lives and was quite proud of her role as President of the PTA. Barbara was exceptional in many ways, most noteworthy of which, may be the love and care she provided to her special needs son, raising him at home against all odds. She possessed an affection for certain foods and McDonald's of Gainesville will undoubtedly recognize a decline in the sale of #1 Combo Meals! Barbara was born to Arnold and Beverly Vadney on Jan. 8, 1957 in San Bernardino, Calif. As an Air Force ‘brat', she lived in many places growing up including; Rhein-Main, Germany, Warner Robbins, Ga., Abilene, Texas and Jacksonville, Ark. After graduating from Jacksonville High School Class of 1975 she went on to marry, birth and raise four children. After assignments to several USAF bases in the contiguous U.S., the family settled in the Anchorage, Alaska area. Our largest state became home for Barbara and her kids. After several years divorce influenced Barb to follow her brother and aging parents to Florida, where she obtained her Medical Assistant Diploma from Keiser University. Barbara enjoyed her work at Wellspring Management Company of Gainesville and loved the company she kept there. She was recently united with the love of her life, John Maxwell, and they married a few short months ago in Alaska. Barbara is preceded in death by her son, Timothy Sellers and mother, Beverly Sue Vadney. She is survived by her husband, John Maxwell of Gainesville, Fla.; her father, Arnold Vadney of Altus, Okla.; two brothers, Glenn Vadney of Fallon, Nev. and Mark Vadney of Altus, Okla.; a sister, Crystal Vadney of Chippewa Falls, Wis. Her beloved children; Chris and Nancy Sellers of Wasilla, Alaska; Kim and Chris Miller of Wasilla, Alaska; and Johnny Sellers of Anchorage, Alaska. She also enriches our lives with her precious grandchildren; Hannah Smith, William Miller, Hayden Miller and Griffin Sellers, (all of Alaska). Barbara was also expecting a fifth grandbaby in January who will never know grandma's laugh. Cremation was performed by Crevasse's Simple Cremation of Gainseville. A memorial service will be held in Alaska in the Spring of 2014.
