Verbeth Coe

Mrs. Verbeth Davis Coe of Tuckerman, Arkansas, passed away following a long illness on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, in Batesville, Arkansas. She was born in Talco, Texas and was the eldest of four children of Edward "Pat" Davis and Jessie Tate Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Edward Q. Davis and John Tate Davis. Mrs. Coe graduated from Texas State College for Women. Following graduation, she met Henry Ezra Coe in Louisiana. They were married in 1946 and remained in Louisiana until returning to Mr. Coe's hometown of Tuckerman, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Tuckerman in 1952, where they would live together until Mr. Coe's death in 2003. Mrs. Coe taught English at Tuckerman High School for a number of years. As an educator, she generously supported several institutions of higher learning. Mrs. Coe and her husband traveled the world extensively all during their life together. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tuckerman. Verbeth enjoyed lively conversation with select small groups. Mrs. Coe is survived by a sister, Lavonne Kershner of Houston, Texas, and two sisters-in-law, Lou Davis of Houston, Texas, and Reva Davis of New Market, Tennessee. Also surviving are a niece, Dr. Marinell Coe Adair of Bentonville, Arkansas, and a nephew, William C. Coe, Jr., of New Orleans, Louisiana, both formerly of Tuckerman, Arkansas. A special thanks is extended to Betty Stuart and Becky Gravette for their love and care during her illness. Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Gracelawn Cemetery in Tuckerman with Dr. Diane Wimberley officiating. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Bob Penix, Jerry Burchfield, Bill Cockrill, James Marshall, Morgan Gilbert, Jimmie Darling, Jimmy Reeves, David Winston, Billy Harris, Rob Penix, and Anderson Penix.
