Howard A. Nobles

Dr. Howard A. Nobles, 71, of Benton passed away Dec. 15, 2013. He was born July 6, 1942 in El Dorado to Henry Arthur and Helen (Woods) Nobles Jr. He was a Navy Veteran, a member of First Baptist Church of Benton, and held bachelor's, master's and doctorate in education degrees from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He was an educator in Benton and a member and past president of the Poets' Round Table. He also authored three books of poetry – Poems from a Baseball Fan, Lost in Limerick Land and Cincinnati, Chicago and Other Places. He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Donald Nobles. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Brenda Nobles of Benton; sons, Ethan Nobles (Marci) of Benton and Zachary Nobles (Alev) of Greensboro, N.C.; sisters, Martha Smith of Kennedale, Texas, and Betty Matthews of Monticello, Ark.; his mother, Helen Woods Nobles of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Michael and Brenda Nobles of Benton, Isaac and Samuel Nobles of Greensboro, N.C.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church-Benton with Dr. Rick Grant officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, 6-8 p.m. also at First Baptist Church of Benton.
