Minnie Lea Green (Minnielee or Minn to her family and friends), age 81, of Benton, went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, December 15, 2013. She was born April 23, 1932 in Bruno, Ark., the only girl of three children, to her parents, Roy Ferdinand and Vera Myrtle Oglesby. Minnie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother (Nonnie) and homemaker. She was the first in her family to have graduated from high school and to have vocational training as a secretary. She met the love of her life, John Allen, while still in high school. She married him in June, 1950, making her a beautiful June Bride. Through their partnership, and the blessings of the Lord, they were able to raise three children and achieve success in life. She worked five years for the Arkansas Children's Colony in Alexander as an office secretary. In later years, she was also Owner/Manager of her own business, J and M Shoes, for over eight years. On her retirement from business, Minnie Lea's sole occupation was the love and care of her husband and family. In 2004-2005, Minnie Lea began her battle against breast cancer. She bravely endured chemotherapy, radiation and reconstructive surgery. She remained cancer free until 2 years ago when her cancer recurred. Under the care of her oncologist, Dr. Thomas Sneed, Minnie Lea continued the fight until her death. Minnie Lea was known for her beauty, both inside and out. She was also known for her graciousness to strangers and friends alike. Minnie Lea is preceded in death by her mother and father: one brother, William Jefferson Oglesby, who died as a newborn. Left to honor and embrace her precious memory is her Loving Husband of 63 years, John Allen Green; her son, Richard Allen Green and his wife Melissa of Jonesboro; her daughter, Jonna Lea West and her husband Carl of Benton; and her son John Allen Green Jr., also of Benton. Also survived by her are her grandsons, Carl Aubrey West and his wife Pam, of Benton; John Mitchell West of Benton, and John Daniel Green of Jonesboro. She is survived by her two brothers, Jim Oglesby and Le'roy Oglesby, both of Benton. Also nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins and so many other loving family members and friends.
