Levetra Taylor Spurway

Levetra Maydell Taylor Spurway died Friday, January 25, 2012 in Monticello, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Oscar and Maggie Taylor Spurway; her sisters, Alma Taylor, Emma Christmas, Mabel Massey, Beulah Wilmoth and Ossie Massey; a brother, William Alvia Taylor; and by her daughter, Pamela Spurway. Levetra was born on February 22, 1919 in Cominto, Ark. In her twenties, she went to Washington, DC to work for the Interior Department and it was there that she met her husband, Jesse Spurway. They were married in March 1944. She retired from the Hecht Company Department Stores in the 1980's and moved back to Monticello, AR to retire. In early 2006, she moved to Dallas, Texas to live with her son. She returned to Monticello in June 2012 to live at the Woods Nursing Home. Levetra loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and Razorback football and basketball. She also loved to fish and cook. She was a member of the Cominto Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, David Spurway and wife Marie of San Antonio, Texas, Jesse Spurway and wife Yoko of Dallas, Texas and Clarence Spurway and wife Leslie of St. Augustine, Fla.; one daughter, Paula Spurway of Ft. Smith, Ark.; two grandchildren, Chelsea Spurway and Michelle Zehentner; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Moon. "Aunt Mutt" is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. The family will visit with friends and family on Friday, February 1st from 6-8 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. Funeral services will be held at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 2 at 10 a.m. under the direction of Rev. Zan Pierce.
