GILBERT RAY WILLIAMS, 82, of Little Rock, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013. Gil was born in Hope, Ark., on Feb. 12, 1930, to the late O.H. Williams and Lucille Williams. He graduated from Little Rock (Central) High in 1947, and enlisted in the Arkansas National Guard, followed by active duty with the U.S. Air Force. During his service, he was on site to guard the students during Central High's integration. He attended the former Little Rock University (UALR) and received a degree in Business Administration. Gil's outgoing personality led him to a career in sales, and he spent many years with various central Arkansas Chevrolet dealerships. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Bonnie Williams. They are survived by one daughter, Michele Williams Shaw and husband, James; two grandsons, Austin and Reed Shaw. His grandsons were the joy of his life, and he enjoyed following their sports and activities. He is also survived by his sister, Eva Ahring of Houston, Texas; a nephew, Greg Hines; nieces, Gail Hines and Tracey Ahring; and Bobbye Avants Kenney and Brad Cazort. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, (501) 224-8300. A graveside service with military honors will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Pinecrest Memorial Park, with Father Warren Harvey officiating.
