Harold Wayne Beaty, 74, lifetime resident of Benton passed away Tuesday, February 5. He was an elder at First Christian Church of Benton, a Navy veteran, and a retired pipefitter from Alcoa. Harold was a charter member of the Benton chapter of the Bass anglers Sportsman Society (BASS) Club. He graduated from Benton High School in 1956 and won numerous awards for playing football and running track. He earned the nickname "Bull" from his high school teammates because of his size and speed. While attending Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas, he was named Junior College all-American in 1958. He transferred to the University of Alabama where he took great pride in playing for Bear Bryant. He continued his love of football by playing for the Navy. He was one of the early inductees into the Benton Wall of Fame Athletic Museum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilburn and Ruth Beaty of Benton; and one brother, Marvin Sullivan of Little Rock. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jerry Beaty, two daughters, Andi Ridgway and husband Ken of Benton and Lori Terrell and husband Mike of Benton; one brother, Ralph Beaty and wife Donna of Blytheville; one sister, Mary Williams and husband Ted of Benton; and five grandchildren, Andrew Ridgway, Shelby Ridgway, Cameron Terrell of Benton and Jackson Terrell and Ryan Terrell of Conway. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 9 at Ashby Funeral Home with Rev. Will Feland officiating. Burial will follow at New Rosemont Cemetery in Benton. Visitation is set from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, February 8 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Andrew Ridgway, Casey Williams, Drew Williams, Chris Dale, Steven Dale, Danny Packebush, Larry Langley, and Ross Lee. Honorary Pallbearers will be the United Steel Workers Local Chapter 4880. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund.
