Charles Edward Smith, of Little Rock, formerly of Stuttgart, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Arkansas Hospice after a short illness. Charles Eddie was born January 21, 1941, to Clyde and Vivian Smith in Stuttgart. Charles Eddie studied agriculture at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He and his father farmed for many years in Stuttgart. Charles Eddie served two terms on the Stuttgart School Board. Later he served on Governor Bill Clinton's staff, and was appointed to the Arkansas Plant Board by Governor Clinton. He served as Deputy Director of the Agricultural Division of the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. He retired as a Field Representative for the U. S. Department of Agriculture Statistics Service. Charles Eddie was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his stepson Clark Etheridge (Rebecca) and granddaughters Louise and Maggie of Lyon, Mississippi; nephew Trey Osburn (Ruthie) of Sherwood; cousins Barbara Desco of Plano, Texas; Jimmy Mays (Sylvia); Richard Mays, Steve Mays, and their families of Schulenberg, Texas. Charles Eddie's graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, at Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart officiated by Dr. Russ Breshears, pastor of Oak Forest United Methodist Church in Little Rock.
