Calvin B. Townsend

Calvin B. Townsend, 84, of Delaware, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 1, 1928, at Eudora, to Ola Calvin and Hazel Georgia Beard Townsend. He was a former Mason, a United States Air Force veteran of World War II and Korea, and a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Charles and Emma Bufkin; a grandson, Charles Christopher Townsend; a sister, Doris M. Williams; and a nephew, Raymond Keith Williams. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Velma Ruth Townsend; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Barbara Townsend of Delaware, and Houston and Carol Townsend of Pottsville; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo Keene of Eudora; a granddaughter, Cris Catlett and her husband, Brian; two grandsons, Matthew Charles Townsend, and Andrew Calvin Townsend and his wife, Tranisa; two great-grandchildren, Abby Grace and Lily Faith Catlett; and two nieces, Phyllis Williams Weeks and Carolyn Williams. The graveside service and burial will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Eudora, by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. The Rev. Jim Huffman will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Matthew and Andrew Townsend, Brian Catlett, Marvin Sibley, John Mathews, Marvin Tackett, Dr. William J. Weaver, and Houston and Charles Townsend. The family will have a time of visitation at the graveside immediately following the service.
