Robert Carl Wells Jr., 75, of Gulf Shores, Ala., died on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, following a battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Wilmot, Ark. on March 25, 1937, to Minnie Belle and Robert Carl Wells Sr., Carl spent most of his life in Wilmot, Ark. He was a graduate of Wilmot High School where was an award winning basketball player. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, where he became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Carl was very successful in farming and in the cotton ginning industry and his family was selected as one of Ashley County's Farm Family of the Year. He was active in the Tennessee Walking Horse industry, owning horses for both pleasure and show. He also enjoyed piloting his own plane. Following retirement, Carl moved to Gulf Shores, Ala and enjoyed golfing and spending time with friends, both old and new. He was a huge fan of Razorback football and basketball. He is preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Belle Fikes Wells, father, Robert Carl Wells Sr., and sister, Carolyn Wells Ainsworth. He is survived by wife, Nancy Tatum Wells, son, Robert Carl Wells III of Little Rock, Ark., daughter, Nancy Anne Branton and Suzi Altman of Brandon, Miss., daughter, Holly Branton Horncastle and Court Horncastle of West Monroe, La., grandson, David Walker King of West Monroe, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Wilmot Cemetery with Rev. John Embrey officiating.
