Doris Ruth Gerren

Doris Ruth Gerren, 82, of Hazen, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. She was the 3rd and youngest daughter born to Fred and Daisy Perry on May 8, 1930. Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles C. Gerren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and both sisters, Kathryn Orlicek and Virginia Beckner both of Hazen. Doris is survived by two daughters Denise Tarter (husband, William "Butch" Tarter)of North Little Rock and Nina Jean King (husband, Alan King) of Hazen; son, Charles L. Gerren (wife, Christy) of England; grandson, William Keith Tarter of North Little Rock; niece, Linda Gurley and family of Millington, Tennessee; nephew, Jack Orlicek and family of Bella Vista, Arkansas and niece, Georgene Jackson and family of Colorado Springs, Colorado; cousins, Helen Red and Gail Cox and wonderful friends, Linda Mathis, Val Wright, and James and Arlene Burks all of Hazen. Doris was a wonderful homemaker and military wife. She and family were fortunate to accompany her husband, Charles overseas to the Azores, Japan, Thailand and Okinawa. Doris enjoyed cake decorating and for several years operated a small business from her home specializing in wedding cakes. She loved working crossword puzzles and spent many hours devoted to finishing the one she started. Most of all, Doris loved her family and children. She was happiest when surrounded by friends, family and loved ones. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 31 at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hazen. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Arkansas Hospice, Jennifer, Portia, and Barbara. Interment will be in the Center Point Cemetery in Hazen.
