Katherine Burris

Katherine Smith Burris, 91, of Redfield, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Born July 4, 1921 at North Little Rock, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Jim Smith and Flossie Holiman Smith. Mrs. Burris was a long-time member and former Sunday school teacher at the Redfield United Methodist Church. She was employed by her grandmother at Holiman's Grocery before going in to business for herself. As the owner/operator of Burris Grocery, She continued to serve the Redfield community for nearly three decades before retiring in 1983. An avid bowler, Mrs. Burris was a sports enthusiast, She always enjoyed cheering on the Razorbacks and the Los Angeles Lakers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George W. Burris Sr., on February 4, 1993; son, George "Butch" Burris, Jr.; and a brother James Smith. She is survived by her son, Marcus Burris and wife Paula; daughter-in-law, Ann Burris; six grandchildren, Kass, Becky, Jimmy, Jason, Jeff and Brent; 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, 2:30 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Reverend Mary Welch officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m. until service time.
