James Russell "Russ" Berry, of Fairfield Bay, died July 1, 2013. Born in Franklin, Ark., Nov. 11, 1933, to the late David and Zelphia Berry. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Civil Engineering. For 36 years he worked as a Civil Engineer in Little Rock at Garver and Garver Engineers before retiring to Fairfield Bay. Russ was an active member of Optimist International serving as President of Optimist international and Governor of the Arkansas Chapter. He was an avid Razorback fan and lifetime member of the Arkansas Alumni Association. He was an elder at the Presbyterian Church and gladly did anything asked of him for the church. During retirement he enjoyed fishing and golf. Survivors include his wife of 56 years Leila Moore Berry; son, James Russell Berry; daughter, Brenda Carol Berry; grandchildren, Jillian Weise, Russell and Christian Berry; Meagan and Patrick Dwyer. Memorial services will be held at Presbyterian Kirk of the Hills Church, 250 Dave Creek Parkway, Fairfield Bay 72088, Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask donations be made to Optimist Hearing Foundation of Arkansas, 1170 Hunter St. Conway, Ark., 72032 or Presbyterian Kirk of Hills Church.
