William David Slocum Sr.

William David Slocum Sr., of Sheridan, Ark., was born April 25, 1927 in Baton Rouge, La., the son of the late William Raynor Slocum and Myrtle Lockhart Slocum. He was a former member of Oakcrest Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, and was a current member of North Main Baptist Church in Sheridan, Ark. He retired from a career as a power block engineer for the Foster Grant Company in Baton Rouge, La. Mr. Slocum died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the age of 86. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Clark Slocum. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Swarner Slocum, of Sheridan, and his sister, Evelyn Slocum Fleming, of Baton Rouge, La. He is also survived by his son, William David Slocum Jr. and wife, Jane. Other survivors are his granddaughters, Laura Slocum Holt (Clint) and daughters, Hannah and Megan; Megan Slocum Witonski (Greg) and their children David and Meredith; and Sarah Slocum Collins (Ryan). Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Greenoaks Funeral Home in Baton Rouge. Burial will follow at the Greenoaks Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday prior to the service at Greenoaks Funeral Home from noon–2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O.
