Norma Gray Swetnam

Norma Gray Swetnam, 75 years, died on July 15, 2013. She was the daughter of Norman and Claudine Gray and was born in Batesville on October 19, 1937. She attended Batesville schools and graduated from Batesville High School in 1955. In 1956, she married Walter H. Swetnam, who was later ordained as a Presbyterian minister and they served churches located in Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Pennsylvania. She attended Arkansas College and was a graduate of Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa and the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. She was a Clinical Social Worker, having worked in both inpatient and outpatient mental health services. She was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Batesville. She was a member of Alpha Delta Mu National Social Work Honorary Society, National Association of Social Workers and the Academy of Certified Social Workers. She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Walter S. Swetnam; one daughter, Dawn Swetnam Gauthier; one sister, Jean Gray Giblin; and one sister-in-law, Iris Swetnam Scott. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Walter H. Swetnam; two children: Gwyn (Rob) Williams of Huntsville, Ala. Dr. Browder Swetnam of Batesville, Ark.; four grandchildren: Trevor Gauthier of Ballston, Spa, N.Y.; Brendon Gauthier of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Bryan Williams of Huntsville, Ala.; and Hannah Williams, also of Huntsville; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Ayers and Janie (James) Vann of Dauphin Island, Ala.; one aunt, Avon Seibert of Fresno, Calif.; one uncle, Morris (Betty) Light of Yakima, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews, along with numerous cousins. The body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Batesville at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
