Allen Loey Formby

Allen Loey Formby of Hot Springs, Ark. and Springhill, La., died in Arkansas Hospice at Mercy Hospital on July 16, 2013, after suffering a stroke several days earlier. He was born September 30, 1927 in Taylor, Ark. to Floyd and Gladys Formby. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Glover Formby and his daughter, Colleen Formby of Crofton, Md. Other surviving family members include an aunt Corrine Reagan of Magnolia, Ark. and cousins Mike Kinard of Magnolia, Karen Rucks of Little Rock, Ark. Allen, a graduate of University of Arkansas was a chemical engineer and worked at and managed Arizona Chemical Company's plant in Springhill, Louisiana, before his retirement in 1989. Following his retirement he and his wife moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he was able to indulge his passion for woodworking, creating beautiful furniture for family and friends. He was a musician and singer, with a beautiful tenor voice and served as music director, choir member, and soloist in several churches over the years. Allen was a Royal Arch Mason and a member of Lodge Chapter 94 in Springhill, Louisiana, as well as a member of Eastern Star. He was a Army Veteran having served in the Occupation Forces at the end of World War II. He is predeceased by his beloved Golden Retriever, Katy. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 20 at 2 p.m. in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Hot Springs and will be conducted by the Reverend Jerry Kidd. Guest register at www.grossfuneralhome.com.
