Funeral services for David Palmer Joseph Patrick Mooney, 74, of Gilmer, Texas will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2013 at St David's Episcopal Church with Reverend Pat Young and Deacon Ethel Cannon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. He slipped away peacefully the evening of July 25, 2013. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs, Ark., with Reverend James P. West officiating. Mr. Mooney was born May 1, 1939 in Hot Springs, Ark. to David Aloysius Mooney and Alden Locke Palmer Mooney. He was the grandson of Clyde Eber ‘C.E.' Palmer, who was a pioneer in the newspaper industry. He grew up in Hot Springs, graduated from Hot Springs High School, was an active member and altar boy at St. John's Catholic Church. He attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. where he met his future wife, Robbie, and was President of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He and Robbie married and moved to Norman, Okla. where he finished his degree at Oklahoma University. He was very involved with his grandfather's newspaper business and eventually became a pioneer in the cable television industry with his roots in WEHCO Media as Vice President and General Manager of several cable television systems including: Hot Springs, Camden, Hope and Prescott, Ark.; Vicksburg, Miss.; and lastly Longview, Texas. He branched out on his own in 1979 to Gilmer, Texas where he and Robbie opened Gilmer Cable Television Company. He was an active member in Rotary Club, ETCOG, director of Emergency Management, treasurer of Trinity Episcopal Parish, and many countless other organizations with a focus on aiding his fellow man. He invested himself in the Gilmer community as a Yamboree volunteer, spelling bee participant, and Buckeye football fan. He will be missed by his many friends, caregivers and family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Robbie Cloy Mooney and survived by daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer and Craig Bass of Fort Worth and Jillana Mooney of Houston; grandchildren, Jordan Bass, Alden Bass, and Delaney Bass. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.
