JOY ANDREWS BRECKENRIDGE. A Professor in the Theatre Department, University of Arkansas, Little Rock, retired, Joy died of cancer July 9, 2013. She was 74. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Fred Andrews and husband, Fred Breckenridge. She is survived by her sister, Freddie Marler and husband Ron; her brother, Bob Andrews and wife Debra; nieces Ashley Marler, Kristy Andrews Homansky and husband Eric; great nephews, Benjamin and Andrew Homansky; loving partner, Jim Schay and furry child, Zacky. Joy earned her BA, Alabama College, Montevallo, Ala. She was selected as one of six beauties, 1959 yearbook. She earned her MFA from Florida State University. Joy was invited to create costumes for the original Cross and Sword, Official Play of Florida. She was a costumer, Opera Department, FSU; Asolo Theatre, Sarasota, Fla.; St. Cloud College, St. Cloud, Minn.; Milliner, Guthrie Theatre, Minneapolis, Minn.; costumer, Portland State University, Portland, Ore.; Furman University, Greenville, S.C.; Troy State University, Troy, Ala.; Coconut Grove Theatre, Miami, Fla. Joy was recognized in "Who's Who" of American Women for her costume work. Joy was an exceptionally talented artist, creating unique designs. Her knowledge of color, value, and texture allowed her costumes to come alive on stage. Joy was a JOY to know. She will be in our hearts forever.
