Barney Melton Sikes, Jr. of Benton passed away on Saturday July 27th 2013 at the age of 74 in Little Rock. He was born October 20, 1938 in Montrose, Ark. to the late Barney Sr. and Pearlie Mae (Mitchell) Sikes. He retired from Reynold's Metal Company as the Plant Engineer in 2001. He is also VP of Hurricane Creek CU board and spent time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Barney enjoyed traveling, spending time with and cooking for family and friends and most of all sitting on his deck looking over the river. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harold, Preston, Henry and Russell Tankersley; sister, Helen Smith; mother in law, Ruth Earl and brother in law, John Earl. Barney is survived by his wife, Sarah (Sally Earl) Sikes of Benton; daughters, Viki Anderson (Nathan) of Shannon Hills; Stephanie (Stevie) Davis of Houston, Texas and (Keith); Sarah's kids; Darren (Angie) and Wendy (Richard) Pitre of Galliano, La., and step-son, DeWayne Hall of Benton, his sister, Louise Coon (Jim) of Alexander, sister in law, Veda Tankersley of Crossett, father in law, David Earl of Benton and sister in law, Judy Roberson of Larose, LA. He is also survived by the mother of his children; Joyce Hall (Randall). 11 grandchildren, Garron, Codey, Brian, Elizabeth, Charles, Ramie, Brisk, Sid, Brayten, Brhea, and Darren, Jr. He was grandpa Barney to his great granddaughter, Kali Grace Spickard and to Sarah's five great grandchildren. Graveside services by Ashby Funeral Home will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Haskell, Ark. with Rev. Greg Kirksey officiating. Pallbearers will be Garron Spickard, Codey Davis, Brian Morris, Darren Pitre, Richard Pitre and Keith Edwards. Honorary Pallbearers will be the board and advisory committee of Hurricane Creek Credit Union. Visitation will be held at Ashbys, 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 29th, 108 W. Narroway in Benton.
