Hazel Powell, 96, formerly of North Little Rock, Ark. passed away on July 28, 2013, at her home in Lake Kiowa, Texas. Hazel was born on July 31, 1916, to the late John and Cora Lindsey, on the family farm at Wolverton Mountain, in Arkansas. She was the sixth of nine children, and had wonderful memories of her childhood, her siblings and growing up on the mountain. She was an amazing cook, a riveting storyteller, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was deeply loved and will be forever missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Powell; two brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her four children, Jettie Holland of North Little Rock, Ark., Freeda Sherrell of Fresno, Calif., Wendell (Carol) Powell of Jackson, Tenn., Linda (Mel) Fite of Lake Kiowa, Texas, and her sister, Vera Lindsey of Jacksonville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of grandchildren-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel 13801 Chenal Parkway Little Rock, Ark. (501)224-8300. Interment will follow at East Shady Grove Cemetery in Greenbrier, Ark.
